Norwich City’s Russell Martin has been confirmed as the club’s sole captain for the upcoming season.
The club’s captaincy was split last season, with Martin taking on club duties and Sebastien Bassong named as team captain. However, Martin was announced as club captain on Friday night ahead of today’s pre-season clash against Dereham.
Canaries boss Neil Adams said: “Russell is someone who can lead by example, he’s an excellent example of how a professional should conduct himself, and he’s an excellent player as well.”
Martin moved to Carrow Road in 2009 from Peterborough, and has appeared in more than 180 games for the club, as well as a Championship promotion in 2011.
On his captaincy, Martin said: “It’s an honour to captain a club of this size and stature, and hopefully [we will] have a great season and get back to where we belong.”
