A number of Championship clubs are interested in signing left-back Sam McCallum on loan from Norwich City this summer, a report from The Athletic has revealed.
McCallum joined Norwich from Coventry City back in the 2020 January transfer window, but has yet to make his league debut for the Canaries, having spent much of the past year-and-a-half on loan in the Sky Blues’.
In total, the 20-year-old has made 84 appearances in all competitions for Coventry, helping the club avoid relegation from the Championship last season.
Now it seems as though more interest is growing in the full-back as we head into the summer transfer window.
According to this latest update, a number of as yet unnamed Championship clubs are keen to secure a deal for McCallum for next season, off the back of the defender’s impressive form for Coventry.
Did these 20 players ever score a goal while on loan at Coventry?
McCallum is not expected to get regular game time in the Premier League at Carrow Road next season, meaning there could be an opening for the 20-year-old to head out on a temporary basis for the coming campaign.
I do think that a loan move to the Championship could make sense for McCallum next season.
Norwich will obviously be looking to avoid relegation from the Premier League during the 2021/22, so they may not want to take a chance on a player with McCallum’s lack of experience at that level.
As a result, it could make sense for the left-back to head out on loan this summer, in order to get those first-team opportunities he may struggle to get at Carrow Road.
Indeed, with McCallum having impressed in the Championship with Coventry last season, it is understandable that there are teams at that level who may be keen to secure the services of the 20-year-old this summer.
