Norwich City are in talks to sign Burnley defender Ben Gibson on loan, according to Football Insider.

Gibson is completely out of favour at Turf Moor under Sean Dyche, and is likely to complete a move away from the Lancashire club this summer.

Gibson became Burnley's joint club-record signing in 2018, when he arrived from Middlesbrough on a four-year deal for a reported fee of £15m.

Did these 12 ex-Norwich City players actually ever score for the club?

The 27-year-old has since found game time hard to come by at Turf Moor, featuring only six times for Burnley in the past two years, and making only one appearance in the Premier League.

The defender was allowed to train with Boro towards the end of last season, and he has recently been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest in a potential cash-plus-player swap deal for Joe Worrall.

Now, though, Football Insider claim that Norwich are exploring the option of signing Gibson on loan from Burnley, with the Canaries said to be locked in talks with the Clarets.

Daniel Farke's side have been very active in the transfer window since their relegation from the Premier League, with seven new faces already arriving at Carrow Road this summer.

The Verdict

This is a signing that would make perfect sense from a Norwich perspective.

Gibson is still at a good age, he has experience of winning promotion to the Premier League in the past, and he is in desperate need of a fresh start.

Ben Godfrey endured an impressive season for Norwich last term, so if interest emerges in the defender, then Gibson would be a ready-made replacement, albeit on a loan basis.
