Norwich City have allowed youngster Simon Power to leave the club on loan for the rest of the season, after signing a new deal with the club.

The 20-year-old put pen-to-paper on improved terms this week to take him through to 2021 at Carrow Road.

And after signing the new deal, he was immediately sent out to Dutch second-tier side FC Dordrecht for the rest of the 2018-19 season.

Power joined from University College Dublin just over a year ago and has impressed in games for the developmental squad, scoring twice in 11 games for the U23s this season.

He had signed an 18-month deal when arriving at the start of 2018 but has impressed enough to earn a longer stay at Carrow Road and be sent out on loan to a new country to improve further.

Power joins the likes of Todd Cantwell and Savvas Mourgosin who have both previously had temporary stints on the continent.

The verdict

Simon Power must be impressing in order to get a new deal and be deemed ready for a loan move away.

He is joining the same side that another Norwich youngster has played for, and this experience will do him a world of good.

It’s one thing playing academy football, and it’s another to make your senior debut, but to move to a new country to do that is a whole new ball game.

It will be a huge learning curve for the winger, and one that he must embrace if he is to fully benefit from his six-month spell in Holland.

I think it is a good move for him and the club, and he will surely only improve while in the Dutch second tier, playing week in and week out in a competitive environment.
