Norwich City have today confirmed on their Twitter account and website that 23-year-old goalkeeper Remi Matthews is going on an emergency loan to Plymouth Argyle.

A decent young goalkeeper, Matthews may have felt that he'd get a chance to feature this season with John Ruddy leaving but Angus Gunn's arrival on loan from Manchester City has put that idea to bed for now. The 23-year-old, then, is off for a temporary switch to the south-west side and will be hoping to impress with the Pilgrims.

Indeed, the men from Devon are struggling this season in League 1 as they look to stay afloat and so if Matthews can help out they'll surely be pleased that they managed to get him, whilst a more long-term deal might also be in the offing with the Canaries confirming things on their Twitter:

It's also a great chance for Matthews to catch the eye of Daniel Farke in a match situation regularly and if he can perform, maybe he'll have a better chance of getting into the Canaries' side. With them pretty strong defensively, though, Farke will probably want to keep Gunn in goal for as long as possible, with Ipswich up next.

The Verdict

This should be a good move for all involved with Plymouth needing to turn things around in League 1 if they are to survive.

It's a good challenge at a decent level for Matthews, then, and the 23-year-old will be hoping that this is the moment his career kicks-on.
