Gary Caldwell’s Wigan Athletic have extended the loan deal of winger Josh Murphy until the end of the season, the club have confirmed.
After suffering a damaging blow to their survival hopes on Tuesday night after a 1-0 loss away at fellow strugglers Millwall, the news that Murphy has signed an extension will hopefully lift the spirits of fans around the club.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined the Latics from second placed team Norwich City initially on a one month loan deal, but they have managed to extend if for the remaining three games of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.
An England Under-20 international, Murphy has made two starts in his five appearances for the club so far and he will now hope to add to that in the last couple of games.
The Wembley born player could be relegated with Wigan on Saturday should they lose against Brighton and Hove Albion or other results go against them.
