Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has revealed that Josh Murphy was dropped from the squad against Middlesbrough because he wasn't professional enough in the build up.

The talented winger had featured in every game for the Canaries so far this season so it was a surprise to see him not involved at the Riverside.

However, speaking at a press conference today, boss Daniel Farke said it was his choice to leave Murphy out, with the club detailing it through a range of tweets.

Josh Murphy wasn't professional enough with his preparation for Middlesbrough. We decided to do without him. If a player isn't there with his will 100 per cent, I will do without him, however good he is.

Yet, it was a brief message from his manager, with Murphy set to return for the trip to Reading tomorrow after the situation was dealt with.

We spoke about it on Wednesday and he apologised to the group. He understands the message. It's done and he's available.”

Norwich will be looking to make it six games unbeaten when they play Reading tomorrow and they've kept a club-record five successive clean sheets too.

The Verdict

Dropping Murphy was a brave call by Farke as if the result had been different fans may have raised serious questions.

However, it shows his authority over the group and will send a message not only to Murphy but any other players.

The matter is now resolved and Farke and the fans will be looking for a reaction from their talented winger tomorrow.
