Noel Whelan has urged the club to increase the capacity at Elland Road after reports suggested it was a possibility.

With Marcelo Bielsa's side flying high at the top of the Championship, the Whites famous old stadium has been packed out every week as the Premier League beckons.

If they do win promotion, tickets will be even harder to come by at Leeds and The Athletic reporter Phil Hay has revealed that the club have 'tentative plans' over rebuilding the West Stand which could increase the overall capacity to around 50,000.

And, former striker Whelan told Football Insider that it would be great for that to happen and he's sure Leeds would have no problem filling it.

"It would be amazing. Absolutely amazing. It is what the club needs and it will definitely sell out. The fan base is there. It is not going to money wasted. Those seats, bums will fill them. No doubt. We have the best fans in the world.

"So many new stadiums have no personality. Elland Road has got loads of it. I really would not want to leave. Revamp it and extend it. That is what the fans want."

The verdict

This would be fantastic for Leeds and it's something that will excite all fans as it would be another indicator of the progress that's been made.

Importantly, it would make sense too. If they manage to establish themselves as a Premier League side then they could easily shift 50,000 tickets, which would bring in more revenue each week as well.

Of course, this could be a long way away but it just shows the ambition is there and Leeds fans will be optimistic about what the future holds.
