It's a hugely frustrating time to be a football supporter, with recent off-the-field events calling an abrupt halt to fixtures across the globe.

No scheduled return date has been put in place for matches to return to our lives in the UK, as the relevant authorities continue to monitor the situation.

It means that Leeds United have had to put their promotion bid on hold, with the Whites currently sat top of the Championship table with just nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

It could be an interesting summer ahead for the Yorkshire-based club as well, with the QSI takeover rumours refusing to die down anytime soon.

However, there will be concern that due to the off-the-field crisis at the moment, that any potential agreement between both parties could be impacted negatively.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds United man Noel Whelan issued his thoughts on the potential takeover, and claimed that it is the ideal time to invest into clubs given the uncertainty at this moment in time.

"Now is a good time to invest in football clubs, it really is.

"If Leeds United are up there and QSI are still interested is that they will get more for their money."

Whelan went on to admit that any potential investment would come in useful for clubs at the moment, who are without any income on matchdays due to the break from competitive action.

"It is unprecedented times and nobody knows how things are going to pan out financially or how this league is going to play out with no fans coming through the turnstiles. You can plan for it but you will not be bang on with the figures.

"The club need to protect themselves. The investment would be handy because it would give the club more financial security."

The Verdict:

He's spot on here.

The rumours on the QSI/Leeds takeover just aren't going away anytime soon, and I'm expecting some sort of agreement to be put in place over the summer.

There will be concern that the current off-the-field situation has impacted any potential developments, but the Elland Road faithful shouldn't be concerned, especially with Leeds in such a strong position.

If Marcelo Bielsa's side can get over the line in the race for promotion into the Premier League this term, then there won't be any concern of the financial stability of the club.
