Former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan has admitted that he loved playing at the club's old Highfield Road ground.

Whelan arrived at Coventry from Leeds United in 1995 and went on to score 38 goals in 155 appearances for the Sky Blues before leaving the club to join Middlesbrough in 2000.

The former striker was a fans' favourite for the Sky Blues and the 44-year-old has now reflected on his time at the club and shared his memories of playing at their old Highfield Road stadium.

Highfield Road was the home of Coventry City for 106 years and the club played their last game there in 2005 before moving to the Ricoh Arena.

When asked about his thoughts on playing at Highfield Road on Twitter, Whelan admitted that he loved playing at the stadium and the special atmosphere the Coventry fans created on matchdays.

Coventry have made a promising start to their season in League One and are currently seventh in the table, just three points outside the automatic promotion places.

Mark Robins' side are without a win in their last three league games though and will be hoping to return to winning ways with three points against MK Dons this weekend.
