Former Leeds United man Noel Whelan has backed Stuart Dallas to thrive in the Premier League after his performances this season.

The Northern Irishman was only a squad player under Marcelo Bielsa in the previous campaign, however he has been an ever-present as the Whites top the Championship in the current season.

And, Dallas has impressed, whether playing at full-back or in midfield, with his versatility a major asset to Leeds.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan was full of praise for the player and insisted that he had no doubts about his ability to handle the step up, even though Dallas has not played at that level in his career.

"He looks in a great place right now, playing with a smile on his face and we’re seeing the full potential of an international who can cut it in the Premier League, absolutely.

"I’ve been mightily impressed with his attitude, his performances, his work rate. This season we’ve seen the real Stuart Dallas. He’s a true professional, he gets on with his job."

Bielsa's side currently hold a seven-point lead over third-placed Fulham with nine games left to play in the Championship.

The verdict

Anyone who has seen Dallas play this season will have been hugely impressed. He has been consistent and played a crucial role to help the team to the top.

So, he would thoroughly deserve a chance in the top-flight - if they get over the line and Bielsa seems the type of boss to give players who perform a chance.

Ultimately, it will be down to Dallas to keep his performance level up, with the only target to ensure the Whites win promotion.
