Leeds United are set for an interesting summer ahead, with potential player departures on the cards as Marcelo Bielsa prepares for next season.

The Whites will be targeting promotion into the Premier League after they narrowly missed out on a long-awaited return to the top-flight last season, with a surprise defeat to Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

One man that has been linked with a move away from Elland Road is Adam Forshaw, who is a rumoured transfer target for Fulham according to the Daily Mail.

In an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds United player, Noel Whelan issued his verdict on Forshaw's performances for the Whites, and insisted that he hasn't hit the level he would have hoped to.

"He hasn’t lived up to expectation. He’s been in and out of the side last year with Leeds. He was a player who was highly spoken about by Middlesbrough but obviously they let him go for a reason as well.

Whelan went on to admit that Forshaw could fit into the Fulham side, and outlined his attributes that he could bring to Scott Parker's side next season.

"I think Adam’s got fantastic ability, the way he retains the ball, his passing, we needed a little bit more from him last season. A couple of mistakes crept into his game passing-wise, a bit of slackness.

"If he does go to Fulham then he’s going to a very good side, isn’t he? Maybe they see him as a perfect fit. Maybe he wasn’t for Leeds."

The Verdict:

He's spot on.

I thought that Forshaw would have made more of an impact for Leeds when he signed from Middlesbrough, but he simply hasn't lived up to the expectation at Elland Road.

He's didn't score or assist for the Whites all of last season, and will surely be tempted by a move away from Elland Road to find a fresh start with Fulham, who will certainly be challenging for promotion to the Premier League next season.
