Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan has suggested the Whites are trying to do things on the cheap right now and has called on 49ers Enterprises to invest into the club.

Owner Andrea Radrizzani has admitted that it's going to be a tough summer as they prepare for another season in the Championship, although the fact that Marcelo Bielsa is staying is a massive boost.

However, many feel the Argentinian needs more backing after a brilliant first year at Elland Road and Whelan agrees, with the BBC pundit telling Football Insider that the investment entity behind American football giants San Francisco 49ers should put more money in after buying a 10% share last year.

"I don’t like what I’m hearing, to be honest. We had the investment last year from the San Francisco 49ers. Where are they right now? We know they invested £10million, but that’s a drop in the oceans for them. It’s nothing.

"Put your hand in your pocket and invest in the club. The team needs investment. I know we have spent a lot on Bielsa and his staff, but it feels like we’re doing things on the cheap, and that worries me."

The Verdict

This is slightly odd from Whelan as 49ers Enterprises are not just going to throw money at a club they don't even own outright just for the sake of it.

We've seen with Norwich and Sheffield United this year that it's not all about who has the most money, so Leeds just need to work with what they have.

Of course, extra investment would be welcome but you can't criticise people for not putting money into a club that isn't theirs.
