Noel Whelan has delivered his prediction for the Championship game between Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

Villa have won their last eight consecutive matches, a run them has seen them cement their position in the play-off places.

Meanwhile Phil Parkinson's Bolton are 23rd in the table, ten points from safety and desperately need a win to keep their chances of avoiding relegation alive.

It has been a terrible season for Wanderers both on and off the field and the team could be relegated this afternoon if they lose and other results work against them.

Former Leeds United striker Whelan is expecting a comfortable win for Villa at the University of Bolton Stadium and admitted he would be surprised if Dean Smith's side fail to pick up three points.

“I do not see Bolton being a problem for Aston Villa. I would be massively surprised if Villa lose or even if they drop points with a draw," Whelan told Football Insider.

“The form they are in at the moment, and the belief the players have in each other, they will prove too much for a Bolton side who are certain to be relegated.”

The Verdict

Whelan is probably right. Of all the games in the Championship this weekend, this is probably one of the easiest to predict.

There seems to be no stopping Villa at the moment and the team have the chance to extend their remarkable winning run to nine consecutive matches this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Bolton have lost their last three games and it is difficult to see them ending that run against the form team in the division.
