Darren Moore has said that plans are already in place regarding Sheffield Wednesday's playing squad this summer.

After a difficult season that started with a deduction of six points the Owls suffered relegation over the weekend following a spirited performance in a 3-3 draw with Derby County.

As a result the club are preparing for life in League One.

The target next season will surely be on securing promotion straight back to the Championship but doing so could be tricky given the number of first team players who are out of contract.

There could be wholesale changes in the Wednesday squad, and discussing his plans for the summer, Moore said that they won't be wasting any time when it comes to deciding players' futures.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Moore said: "It is an important summer regardless of whether we stayed in the Championship or not because of the situation we are in with the squad.

"We will be looking to make decisions (on players) straight away. There is no time to waste. I would imagine (decisions will be made) from this week onwards.

"I have already formulated my plans on how I want to take this team forward but we need to have the conversations with the players first before we move forward."

The verdict

It's going to be a busy old summer for Sheffield Wednesday.

With so many high-profile players out of contract it seems that Darren Moore could be preparing for wholesale alterations as he looks to get his squad ready for the new season.

One thing that we do know is that it'll be very interesting to see how the Owls look on the first day of the new season.
