Sheffield Wednesday’s 2017/18 campaign has been a stressful one for all associated with the club, as the Owls struggle to work their way into the race for the top-six and fail to live up to the expectations of the club’s supporters.

A sluggish start to the season eventually cost Carvalhal his job at Hillsborough on Christmas Eve, with Wednesday now on the lookout for his replacement, whilst Lee Bullen takes temporary charge of the first-team.

Over the last 24 hours, Jos Luhukay has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace Carvalhal, with the 54-year-old Dutchman reportedly on the Owls’ radar, according to the Sheffield Star.

Luhukay has spent his entire managerial career in Germany, delivering promotion to the Bundesliga with three of his four different employers.

Over the course of his time in management, Luhukay has taken charge of Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg, Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart, with his spell with the latter ending under a dark cloud in 2016.
