Reports from the Telegraph claim that Newcastle United will demand up to £15m for striker Dwight Gayle in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour under Steve Bruce, making just three first-team appearances for the Magpies this term.
Gayle spent last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, scoring 24 goals in 41 games as the Baggies narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
A proven goalscorer at Championship level, the forward has recently been linked with moves away from St. James’ Park, with West Brom and Nottingham Forest being mentioned.
The latter are likely to be in the market for a new striker in January, having let go of the likes of Daryl Murphy, Jason Cummings, Apostolos Vellios and Hillal Soudani in the summer.

But it is now claimed that the Reds will have to smash their club-record fee for the second year running if they are to go out and sign Gayle.
Lewis Grabban has scored eight goals and has been in fine form for Sabri Lamouchi’s side this season, but they will have to cough up more than the £13.2m they spent on Joao Carvalho last term.
Forest fans have had their say on the Nottingham Forest News Facebook page – here’s what they had to say about Gayle’s price-tag…
Scott Markham: I would rather pay £20m for Ollie Watkins he’s still 23 and could be worth more in 2-3 years especially if he keeps the good form up. Dwight Gayle we will be burning money on him
John Haddow: Why isn’t he a regular in the Newcastle side, £15m no thanks.
Adrian Nicholas: Tell them to sod off 15m for a 29 year old who has hardly played this season! Jokers
Paul Hallam: Inflated beyond his scope eight or nine at a push proven scorer admitted but a one dimensional player and factoring his age as well if he is not a regular wouldnt a loan move for Andy Carrol even absorbing his wages be a more worthy punt.
Grant Barker: 6 mil tops . If he was that good he would be in the Newcastle team
Mike Wood: Gayle is worth every penny of £15m. What did Sheff Utd pay for McBurnie… £20m. It’s the going rate for a goal scorer who almost guarantees you promotion.
Paul Ecob: I think it’s fair to say he’s worth between 8/10 million. However if Grabban gets injured and he scores the goals we need to get in the premiership 15 million would be worth it. Big gamble though.
Grant Fellows: Isn’t he in his last year, seems way too much.
