‘No thanks’ – Leeds fans react as rumours circulate of sacked manager taking over at Elland Road

Leeds United fans were stunned yesterday by the news that manager Garry Monk had resigned from his position at the club.

The 38-year-old replaced Steve Evans as head coach last summer and did a stellar job at Elland Road, leading the club to seventh place in the Championship, their best position since 2011.

Although there was a tinge of disappointment that they didn’t finish in the play-offs, given they spent a decent chunk of the season in them, it has been widely viewed that the former Swansea boss had brought stability to a club that simply hasn’t had any for many a year.

Nonetheless, Monk failed to agree a new long-term deal at the club and so subsequently resigned, and recent reports have suggested that former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri is in line to replace him.

The 55-year-old lost his job at Vicarage Road last week despite leading the Hornets to Premier League safety, yet he may well come back into management much sooner than he may have expected.

And this news stimulated quite a response from Leeds fans on Twitter, and it’s fair to say that many aren’t overly sold on the idea of Mazzarri taking over at Elland Road…
