Sheffield Wednesday have decided to sack manager Garry Monk after a poor start to the season.

The Owls' points deduction was halved from -12 to -6 but the Yorkshire side still sit in the relegation zone and owner Dejphon Chansiri decided to pull the trigger and sack Monk, as we head into the international break.

So, has Chansiri made the right call here?

I'm really not sure about this decision to be honest.

Monk looked to be a dead man walking after defeats to Rotherham United and Wycombe Wanderers, but they've recently had a slight upturn in form with decent results against Bournemouth and Millwall.

After having their recent points deduction halved, their chances of surviving the drop to League One have increased, which makes it all the more surprising.

In the long run, it might do them good to have a new manager in place, and they can almost start afresh now. But it's undeniably a risk to bring in someone who will have to take time to get used to the group of players and pick up results.

Chansiri is no stranger to making bold decisions, and this is certainly one of them.

It certainly seems like Dejphon Chansiri has made the correct call with this one.

Garry Monk faced a huge challenge with Sheffield Wednesday this term after they started the season with a 12-point deduction.

However expectations should be higher.

The Owls are in the drop zone at the moment, and even if they had started the season on 0 points they would only just have their heads above water.

That is isn't good enough for Sheffield Wednesday.

Chansiri will be hoping that the side can kick on, and unfortunately under Monk it just didn't look like that would happen.

Whether it is the right decision or not will probably have to be decided at the end of the season when we look at the Championship table.

For my money, Monk would’ve kept Wednesday in the Championship, but it’s quite clear that Chansiri has someone lined up to replace him. Hence the sudden change in stance.

The halving of the 12-point deduction is the beginning of the next chapter. Wednesday can survive and should do with ease given the talent in their squad, with the owner sensing it is going to have to be a new manager that takes them on that journey.

That’s fair enough, but as mentioned earlier, we can’t really look at whether this is the right call until we see how the season develops for Wednesday.
