Gillingham have announced their retained list, with six players set to depart Priestfield on a free transfer this summer.

The Gills finished just outside the bottom four this season, but manager Steve Lovell paid the price for a lack of progress as he was dismissed shortly after securing their safety.

They've yet to name a new manager but have still let six players leave in search of regular football elsewhere.

Luke O’Neill, Alex Lacey, Billy Bingham, Ryan Huckle, Louie Catherall and Tom Hadler will all depart at the end of the month as the hierarchy look to offer a new manager a clean slate for his tenure.

They have offered new deals to Tomas Holy and Tom Eaves in the hope their star players will stay.

There are few surprises on the retained list, with fans reacting positively on Twitter. There is a concern that if Holy doesn't stay, releasing keeper Halder might be a mistake, but in the main the reaction is positive.

It seems a clear out was on their minds too after a couple of years of struggle.
