Portsmouth got back to winning ways on their travels on the weekend, as they edged past Bolton Wanderers 1-0 to move to within touching distance of the League One play-off places.

A Christian Burgess strike three minutes before half-time proved to be enough to separate the two sides at the University of Bolton Stadium, as Pompey moved level on points with 6th placed Sunderland after the win.

It was also Portsmouth’s first taste of victory on their travels for almost two months, and also their second clean sheet away from home all season.

John Marquis once again started behind Ellis Harrison in the Number 10 role, and was close to getting on the scoresheet.

The 27-year-old got his head onto Steve Seddon’s free-kick from deep, but his effort was parried by Remi Matthews into the path of Burgess, who tapped home in what proved to be the winning goal.
