Reading continued their preparations for the new Championship campaign earlier today by taking on Malaga B in a pre-season friendly.

In what was a game of few chances, the Royals' goalkeeper Joao Virginia produced several fantastic saves to secure a draw for his side as the clash ended goalless.

Ending the game in strong fashion, Reading nearly grabbed the winner in the 86th minute when Omar Richards set up Sam Baldock who was denied by the Malaga keeper.

It was a frustrating day for the forward who squandered a golden opportunity to get on the scoresheet earlier in the second-half by blazing over.

Having recently been told by Jose Manuel Gomes to find a new club (via Reading Chronicle journalist Courtney Friday), Baldock's performance against Malaga would have done little to change the 48-year-old's mind.

As well as fielding the likes of Baldock and Richards, the Royals boss also gave several of the club's academy players a run out in Estepona with Tyler Frost and Jordan Holsgrove both producing eye-catching displays for their side.

Reacting to the club's latest outing on Twitter, some Reading fans expressed their encouragement at the result.

However, not all of the Madejski faithful were impressed by the Royals' performance.

Reading are now set to take on Extremadura this evening with a stronger side expected to line-up against the La Liga 2 outfit before ending their Spanish tour with friendlies against Lincoln City and Granada on Saturday.
