Huddersfield Town have had a difficult start to their Championship season, picking up only one point from a possible nine while also being dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the first round stage by Lincoln City -form that led to the Terriers sacking manager Jan Siewert after 19 matches in charge.

First team coach Mark Hudson has been put in caretaker charge of the first team following Siewert's departure, his second spell in the top-job having briefly stepped in following the sacking of previous boss David Wagner.

Hudson, 37, has made no secret of his desire to take the permanent manager role at the club, as reported on Examiner Live and will be hoping to stake his claim when the Terriers head to Cardiff City in the league on Wednesday night.

So would Hudson be a good appointment at the John Smith's Stadium?

Toby Wilding

"In a way yes.

"Hudson has been around Huddersfield, both as a player and behind the scenes, for some time now, so he already knows everything he needs to about the club, and he will be familiar with the players at his disposal already.

"However, it does seem like this would be a big step up to take with a Huddersfield side that are as out of form as they are, and have been for some time, which would make this an unenviable task for someone embarking on their first job in management.

"You feel therefore that for now, it may suit everyone better, if a more experienced and established manager was brought in to take over at the John Smith's Stadium for the time being."

Gary Hutchinson

“No, not this early. I’m sure anyone wanting to be a manager sees an opportunity and wants it, but the Championship is not a palce to start your career as a manager.

“Go into League One or League Two and start there. Sol Campbell had to and he did really well with Macclesfield; they looked dead and buried but are now winning games thanks to him.

“Managers can’t just go straight to the top; you wouldn’t go for a management job in retail and be given the biggest store; you’d start small and build up.

“Huddersfield need a steady hand, an experienced manager with good people skills right now.”

“Mark Hudson will have learnt a lot from the previous Town managers but he is not what the club need right now considering the situation they are in.

“Hudson would be useful as he knows the players and likely has a good rapport with them, but Huddersfield need a manager with Championship experience, ideally one who has been in a situation and turned round a team low on confidence and on a poor run of form.

“A manager who can install a bit of spirit and encouragement would go a long way in this Huddersfield team, which really just needs a couple of wins to start believing again and to put the previous few months behind them.

“The club failed in its appointment of the inexperienced Jan Siewert and they cannot afford to do so again if they are to make any progress this season. Hudson deserves a chance of an interview but he would probably be best suited to continuing in an assistant role currently."
