Many Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that defender Denver Hume is edging closer to sealing a permanent exit from the club.

According to Football Insider, Hume is set to undergo a medical at Portsmouth after the Black Cats reached an agreement with their League One rivals.

Hume was not included in Sunderland's match-day squad for their meeting with Pompey last weekend amid speculation surrounding his future.

In the absence of Hume, Lee Johnson's side managed to seal a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth thanks to a goal from Elliot Embleton.

Following the culmination of the previous campaign, the left-back let his previous contract at the Stadium of Light expire before signing a two-year deal with the club in September.

Hume has failed to establish himself as a key player for the Black Cats this season as he has been limited to eight appearances in all competitions.
