Championfship outfit Barnsley fell to a 2-1 away defeat at the hands of League 2 outfit Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Paul Heckingbottom's side started with a strong first eleven, and went in at half-time with a 1-0 goal lead, thanks to Lloyd Isgrove's strike.

However, the Tykes boss introduced a host of substitutions as the second half wore on, and saw his much changed side lose two second half goals, with a strike from a Marriners trialist settling the match in the closing stages.

The reaction from the Barnsley fans was mixed. Certain fans were unhappy because they felt the squad was still in need of new blood and that their side should still be capable of seeing off a team from two leagues below.

Others were less concerned, pointing out that the changes, ten of which came before the 65th minute, disrupted the flow of the game.

They also added that they were not concerned by results in pre-season - however it is fair to say there were some Barnsley fans who saw the poor result as a sign of things to come when the big kick off finally arrives next month.
