Despite starting a Champions League final less than 18 months ago, Tottenham defender Danny Rose could end up plying his trade in the Championship in the coming months.

Rose, whose currently training with the Under-23s, hasn't featured for Spurs since January and isn't fancied by boss Jose Mourinho, which forced him to spend the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle.

The left-back appeared on the verge of signing for Italian club Genoa earlier this window, but Rose remains a Tottenham player despite not being given a squad number for the this season.

However, that could change before Friday's domestic deadline after Football Insider reported that Middlesbrough are trying to pull off a a sensational deal for the defender, whose been capped 29 times by England - four of which came last year.
