New Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has made his first transfer move since taking over the Tigers last week - and it's not an extravagant foreign acquisition that many would have expected.

So many names have been linked from overseas to arrive at the MKM Stadium but it is a player that knows Hull very well who has returned to the club on a permanent basis.

That is Regan Slater, who has completed a switch from Championship rivals Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder spent the 2020-21 season on loan at the club from the Blades and made 27 League One appearances, however he wasn't always a regular starter under Grant McCann.

The Northern Irishman still identified the 22-year-old as a target for this season though despite the fact he spent a lot of time on the substitutes bench, but the summer transfer window passed with Slater remaining at Bramall Lane.

Having not received a chance from either Slavisa Jokanovic or Paul Heckingbottom though, United have sanctioned a deal to allow Slater to depart on a permanent basis, ending a long association with the club after graduating through their academy.

Even though McCann was the one that played Slater, it is Ilicali that sanctioned the deal as he's believed to be a fan of Slater from what he's seen - let's see how Hull fans are reacting to the transfer.
