Sunderland boss Chris Coleman's situation is getting pretty desperate at the Stadium of Light, with the Black Cats staring a second successive relegation firmly in the face.

It was anticipated that this season would be the campaign where Sunderland got back on track as a football club after years of misery in the top flight, yet it hasn't transpired in such a manner and the club are now close to falling into the third tier of English football.

Former Wales boss Coleman was tasked with reviving the club's flailing fortunes when he took charge back in November yet his mission looks thankless given the team's struggles on the pitch.

With a takeover seemingly on the horizon things can only get better for the Black Cats and the summer will likely see Coleman make wholesale changes to his squad.

FLW writer Lee Clarke looks at two things that the Black Cats' boss must do in the summer to ensure a better campaign during 2018/19...

Quite frankly Sunderland's experienced players haven't stood up to be counted this season and Coleman would be wise to focus on blooding the club's youth products next season.

The likes of Josh Maja and George Honeyman should be players trusted by Coleman to give the club a lift next season and if the club does get relegated these players will get ample opportunities to play in League One.

It goes without saying that the only way Chris Coleman can entice people back to the Stadium of Light is by winning football matches and a winning mentality is something that the boss must adopt next season.

The atmosphere at home games this season has been toxic to say the least and Coleman needs to find a style that works and that the club's supporters can buy into ahead of the next campaign.

Sunderland fans, do you agree that these two things need changing ahead of next season? Let us know in the comments below!!!
