The improvement made over the course of the 2017/18 campaign by Bolton Wanderers has been nothing short of remarkable and boss Phil Parkinson deserves immense credit for the way he has turned things around.

Last weekend's 1-0 win over high-flying Aston Villa has the club six points clear of the relegation zone in the Championship with just eight games left and with one of the smaller budgets in the division it would be a gastronomical achievement if the Trotters can beat the drop.

Parkinson added some shrewd loan recruits during the January transfer window and their upturn in fortunes has coincided with those players arriving at the Macron Stadium.

In the coming weeks the Bolton boss will look to complete his survival mission and begin planning for next season. FLW writer Lee Clarke looks at two things that Parkinson most certainly needs to do in the summer...

The Trotter took their prodigal son on loan from Nottingham Forest back in January and there is every possibility that the Reds might look to offload the attacking midfielder permanently during the summer.

Given that Clough hasn't really set the City Ground alight there is every possibility that the Reds may look to cut their losses on the player and that could open the door for Bolton to pounce.

Bolton boss Parkinson would be extremely wise to go out and sign a striker who can guarantee 15-20 goals next season given their struggles to hit the back of the next during 2017/18.

The Trotters have mustered just 33 goals from their 38 Championship fixtures and had they been a little bit more potent in front of goal their survival bid would have been a lot smoother.
