Oldham Athletic have announced that the club have agreed to mutually terminate the contract of attacking midfielder Chris Eagles, bringing an end to his time at Boundary Park.

Eagles joined Oldham on a one-year contract - with the club holding the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months - in July 2019, although that deal has now come to an end after less than six months.

The 34-year-old made a total of 18 appearances in all competitions during his time with the Latics, but started just five league games for the club, and failed to find the net in that time.

It has been a difficult season in League Two so far for Oldham, with Eagles leaving the club 20th in the fourth-tier standings, eight points clear of the division's one relegation spot this season.

Taking to Twitter to react to the news of Eagles' departure, plenty of Oldham fans appeared did not appear overly concerned by the loss of the midfielder, with many appearing to suggest he failed to live up to his potential at the club.

Here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
