Brentford forward Nikos Karelis has vowed to come back stronger than before as he continues his recovery from a knee injury which has kept him sidelined for most of the campaign.

Karelis joined Brentford on an initial one-year contract towards the end of August, but he only managed to make four appearances for the Bees before sustaining a serious injury during the clash with Millwall back in October.

This match represented the 28-year-old's first start since joining the Griffin Park side on a free transfer, but he has now not featured for almost five months after being stretchered off just before half-time against the Lions.

Karelis has been forced to watch from the sidelines with his Brentford team-mates targeting promotion to the Premier League this term, with Thomas Frank's men currently sitting fourth in the table with fixtures now suspended until April 3rd at the earliest.

The Verdict

It was hugely unfortunate that Karelis suffered such a serious injury setback so early into his Brentford career, particularly seeing as the striker would have been looking to quickly impress his new club due to him having an initial one-year contract.

The striker's latest video provides an insight to how hard he is working to overcome his significant setback, and the suspension of EFL fixtures could perhaps mean he still has a role to play for Frank's side when the matches eventually resume.

Karelis has barely been given a chance to show what he can do at Brentford yet, but the fact he netted 33 goals in 74 games for his previous club Genk suggests he could yet prove to be an important player for the Bees at some point in the future.
