Nigel Pearson has admitted he's not worried about the pressure growing on him after Tuesday's EFL Cup defeat to Lincoln City.

The surprise loss was the latest in a series of poor displays which has seen Bristol City's form drop considerably over the last two months.

The Robins have now lost eight games in their last 13 and sit 20th in the Championship after results went against them on Tuesday mounting up the pressure on Pearson.

With just three points separating City and the bottom three, Pearson will be incredibly aware of the consequences if his side doesn't improve. So far this season, eight teams have changed managers with half of the season still left to play.

Speaking to Bristol World about the pressure, Pearson was content to take it in his stride: “There’s pressure all the time, of course, there is. But if you’re asking me if I worry about it, of course, I don’t, no."

One issue Pearson pointed the finger at was the lack of depth in his squad, with the former Watford and Leicester boss suggesting the poor form is a result of the significant changes being made.

"We are where we are because of what we are having to do, and that is changing the squad. We don’t have the depth so it’s obvious.”

The poor display against Lincoln was met with boos at half-time and full-time with Bristol City struggling to make their mark in the game, which will no doubt mount pressure on Pearson.

The Verdict

The squad that Pearson is working with is short on numbers, and there has been a plethora of injury troubles of late.
However, the Robins have been defensively vulnerable with Pearson nowhere near looking like correcting that. They conceded 29 goals in 20 league games this season which is the fourth worse in the Championship. There are plenty of good elements about this squad with good experienced players, mixed with talented youngsters but Pearson is currently failing to get them playing consistently which will no doubt be a cause for concern to the ownership.
