Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough almost laid the blame at the hands of Nottingham Forest as he saw his side relegated from the Championship following a 2-1 loss at Preston North End.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Clough said that Forest's late capitulation at Bolton Wanderers changed the mindset of his players, who wer forced to go on the all out attack and try and find a winner against Preston, only to see Louis Moult put the home side in front on the counter.

Clough added that he was proud of the efforts of his squad, and said that it had 'been an incredible journey' for everyone involved with the Brewers to play Championship football.

The former Forest striker was hoping for a favour from his former club, and they appeared on course to do just that, leading 2-1 at Bolton heading into the final five minutes of the game. However, the Reds were hit by two quick sucker punches by the Trotters, who ultimately secured their own Championship status ahead of Burton with the win.

Burton and Clough will be hoping to make an immediate return, while Forest will be hoping for an active summer in the transfer market as they seek to improve on the last two seasons disappointing campaigns.
