Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough has admitted he is focusing on the FA Cup Semi-Final against Hull City ahead of tonight’s Sky Bet League One game against Brentford.
Tonight’s game at Bramall Lane is the sixth league game since their 2-0 win over Charlton in the Quarter-Finals and with Sheffield United seemingly set for mid-table, he can afford to rest some of his players.
“It’s not often you can say this but we are focusing on the FA Cup now and we won’t be risking anyone before Wembley.
“To play eight games between a quarter-final and a semi-final is a lot to ask and I think our midfielders and attackers have started to feel that,” Clough told BBC Radio Sheffield.
With Brentford set for promotion it will be a stern test for the fringe players at Sheffield United.
“It’s a good measure for us to see how far we’ve come and where we’ve got to get to for next season,” Clough said.
Despite the resting of players, Clough is still confident the Blades can be competitive in their next few matches.
“We are confident as we always are going into games at Bramall Lane and hopefully we can get a decent points return because we certainly don’t want to be entering the semi-final on the back of a run of defeats, we still have plenty to play for.”
Sheffield United– They are doubts over Bob Harris, Matt Hill, Stefan Scougall and Jose Baxter ahead of the game. While defender Harry Maguire is serving the secondgame of his two-match ban.
Brentford– The Bees expect to welcome back defender Tony Craig from illness and George Saville from a knock.
