Nigel Adkins reveals Hull have offered major contract to in-demand striker

Hull City have offered star striker Abel Hernandez a big contract in a last-ditch attempt to keep him at the club.

The Uruguay international is out of contract in the summer and has previously stated he expects to leave the Tigers at the end of the season.

Hernandez has been linked with the likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa in recent weeks but Nigel Adkins has revealed Hull are doing all they can to keep him at the club.

We’ve offered a contract to Abel and that’s an ongoing situation with the owners,” he told the Hull Daily Mail.

Is he going to be here or is he not? We’ve offered him one hell of a contract to be here but he’s not signed it at the moment. We’re just waiting to see what happens.”

It has been an injury hit campaign for the 27-year old who suffered a ruptured Achilles back in August but has been in great form since returning.

The former Palermo man has hit eight goals in 10 games this season.

The Verdict

It’s very hard to see Hernandez at Hull next season and it’s a major blow for the club, losing such a valuable player for free.

However, they knew this was likely when they let his contract run down.

Fans will be pleased to see the club are doing all they can to keep their star striker but the reality is he will be off, with Premier League clubs sure to be interested.
