Hull City have seen their play-off bid come to an end this week after the Tigers suffered a 3-0 defeat against Sheffield United.

Nigel Adkins' side had an outside chance of making the top-six, but they now sit seven points behind sixth with two games remaining.

The Tigers have lost their last three matches now, with the promotion-chasing Blades inflicting the latest blow to bring any hope of the play-offs to an abrupt end.

It has now emerged that regular starter Marc Pugh has been forced to end his loan spell at KCOM Stadium early after breaking his toe in the early stages of the Sheffield United loss.

Adkins confirmed the news in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side's trip to Swansea, while the update also appeared on Twitter.

Pugh joined on loan from Bournemouth in January, and has made 14 appearances for the Tigers, while also contributing three goals in the process.

Pugh's Bournemouth contract expires in the summer, which means the midfielder now stands at a crossroads.

The Verdict

Pugh is a very intelligent winger who has been a consistent performer for Adkins' side.

This news comes as a slight blow ahead of their final two matches, but the Tigers don't have much to play for now anyway.

In my opinion, Hull should be keeping tabs on Pugh's recovery over the summer. He has proven during this loan spell that he can perform at a high level in the Championship.
