Charlton Athletic have had a bit of a difficult start to their Sky Bet League One campaign this year with them picking up just the one point from their opening three matches.
There had been considerable hope around the club going into the new campaign that a challenge for promotion would be on and, of course, there’s still time for that to happen – but it does seem as though a few more additions are needed before the transfer deadline.
Nigel Adkins, Thomas Sandgaard and co. will be eager to make that happen in the final weeks of the window, then, and the Charlton boss has addressed the notion of him signing winger Corey Blackett-Taylor in quotes taken by the South London Press:
“He’s a player that I’m aware of. He did very well when he was at Aston Villa and England. Answering your question, there’s a lot of players that we like out there. So, who knows.
“There’s a lot of players that we’ve been looking at and a lot of players that we admire and a lot of players that we’ve got 12 days left of the transfer window for. It’s obvious that we need to bring more players in to help the honest, hard-working players that we’ve got who tonight have unfortunately have got on the wrong end of the result.”
Adkins was speaking after the Addicks’ 2-1 defeat at MK Dons – their second away loss by that scoreline in a row following their loss at Oxford United at the weekend.
The Addicks take on Wigan Athletic this weekend at home, before playing Crewe next weekend also at The Valley, so they’ll be looking to use home advantage to get them properly up and running points-wise.
There’s clearly work to do in the market during the next couple of weeks, too, and we’ll have to see if Blackett-Taylor turns up in SE7 – Adkins has been pretty coy with these comments.
