Mansfield Town striker Nicky Maynard has criticised supporters for booing their team off the pitch, in the 1-0 home win over Chorley a fortnight ago.

The Stags - who finished in the League Two play-off semi-finals under David Flitcroft last term - have endured a disappointing campaign under John Dempster this time around.

Mansfield have won just one of their last five league games, and currently sit seven points off the play-off places in 14th spot.

Less than a fortnight ago, Dempster's side progressed through to the second round of the FA Cup, after beating National League side Chorley at the One Call Stadium.

It was hardly a vintage performance from the Stags, though. They had just three shots on target, and left it late to claim a narrow 1-0 win over the side who sit rock bottom of the National League.

Maynard scored his seventh goal of the campaign to secure the victory for the Stags, but fans let their feelings known after the final whistle and booed their team's performance.

Speaking to the club's media ahead of Saturday's clash with Swindon Town, Maynard criticised the fans for booing, saying that he doesn't "understand" their actions.

The Verdict

Mansfield fans have every right to do whatever they want - they pay their money to enter the stadium.

I don't really blame them for booing against Chorley - with the squad they had out on paper, they should have easing past their opponents.

The Stags have really struggled this season, and if they keep on drawing and losing games, I can't see Dempster lasting much longer at all.

They have the players to succeed, but it just isn't working for some strange reason.
