Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Ryan Schofield has played down his own contribution after recording his second clean sheet on just his second Championship appearance for the Terriers.

Carlos Corberan has goalkeeping issues at the moment with Ben Hamer - his first choice - forced to isolate and still a week or so away from returning. Joel Pereira was unconvincing on his debut on Saturday too, shipping four goals against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

Schofield, 20, was called into the side last night against Wycombe and kept a clean sheet on his first appearance of the season. In fact, his only other Championship outing came in another goalless draw with Middlesbrough 13 months ago.

Despite an impressive 100% clean sheet record in the Championship, Schofield was quick to praise the defence in-front of him, admitting that they have made things easy for him.

He told Huddersfield's official media“On a personal note, I’m delighted to keep another clean sheet.

"I think I owe that to the lads, because I only had one save to make against Middlesbrough and then again tonight. That’s made it nice and easy when I’m required."

Schofield will be looking to retain the faith of Corberan this coming weekend, as Huddersfield look for a first win in four games in the Championship.

Defeat at Stoke, combined with last night's stalemate with Wycombe, has left the Terriers 16th in the Championship table. They face Boro on Saturday at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Verdict

A goalkeeper's job is always easier when the defence ahead of them decide to tighten up.

If we are honest, Wycombe lack the attacking quality of a side like Stoke, so Schofield has obviously had an easier ride that Pereira did. However, there's little denying that he's maybe the safer pair of hands at the moment.

Should Hamer miss out again this weekend, you've got to imagine that Schofield will retain the gloves against Boro.
