Scunthorpe United defender Niall Canavan stalwart has signed a new two-year deal with the Sky Bet League One club.
The former U-21 Republic of Ireland International centre-half has made 48 appearances for the Scunthorpe as they won a return back to the Sky Bet League One at the first attempt.
Although born in Leeds, he carries an Irish passport and was called up by the FAI to the U21 squad in March 2011. In March 2011 made his debut appearance for the national Under-21 team.
Canavan, who joined the club as a trainee in 2004, made an impression on Scunthorpes’ Youth Scout Jeff Daws whilst playing for Leeds City Boys against Doncaster City Boys at the age of 14, went on to sign professional terms in April 2009. Since then he has established a successful defensive partnership for Scunthorpe with fellow centre-back David Mirfin, notching up 77 appearance for the club in the process.
