The Championship resumes tonight as Sheffield United host Bristol City in a game between two surprise play-off rivals.

Few would have expected the pair to be up where they are at this point in the season but both are there on merit and deserve to be playing in such a high-profile game.

There's plenty of action to come across the division over the weekend, too, and ahead of the fixtures there's been plenty of news coming out across the day, so let's take a look at some of the biggest headlines - starting with Cardiff.

The Bluebirds are the closest side to Wolves at the moment but you feel as though they need to strengthen their squad in January. It appears plans are getting drawn up to do that, too, with Kicker saying that Dominick Drexler is a potential target.

Meanwhile, at Leeds, the team news could have been a bit better with Adam Pope revealing that three have been ruled out of the squad for the game at QPR:

Staying in Yorkshire and, ahead of Sheffield Wednesday's big clash with Norwich City, Carlos Carvalhal has said that his players must take responsibility for the patchy results this season - as per the Sheffield Star. Let's see if that gets the desired response this weekend.

More injury news at Aston Villa, meanwhile, and it's of the positive variety with Mile Jedinak in training once more as well as being joined by Gabby Agbonlahor and Scott Hogan out on the grass - as per Villa on Twitter:

And, finally, on a more transfer-related note, Mark Warburton has been quoted by the Nottingham Post in saying that Forest's search for new players is proving extensive.

He said:

“You would be amazed by the number of players we have looked at.

“You have to spread your net far and wide.

“There is better value to be found in the overseas market, but with that, there are also bigger questions to be answered."
