Despite a season filled with fear of relegation, Reading have actually ended up surviving with relative ease.
With one match left to play, Jose Gomes’ side have the Royals sat six points clear of an already decided relegation zone and could climb as high as 18th with a win against Birmingham on Sunday.
Someone who has been crucial to their surge away from danger is Nelson Oliveira.
Arriving on loan from Norwich City until the end of the season back in January, the Portuguese striker has added a serious cutting edge to the club’s attack.
He has scored three goals in ten matches but his enthusiasm and energy has been a breath of fresh air at the Madjeski, lifting the rest of the squad in the process.
Reports emerged in April linking him with a permanent move with journalist Jonathan Low revealing that a fee had already been agreed between the teams.
But how will Oliveira feel about this?
His career at Norwich City is surely dead and not even the prospect of wrestling his way into a Premier League side would be enough to tempt him back.
He will surely, therefore, be ready to grasp a full-time chance at Reading with both hands and get a deal done as soon as possible.
And this news should be nothing but good news for him.
