Cardiff City are hoping to sign Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion after securing promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the Championship season, The Daily Mail reports.

The Bluebirds drew 0-0 with Reading on the final day of the season but Fulham lost to Birmingham City at St Andrew's to send Neil Warnock's side back to the top flight.

And with West Brom likely to be dropping into the Championship, Cardiff are trying to poach Rondon from them.

West Brom beat Tottenham Hotspur yesterday to retain the slimmest of hopes of staying up but they are relying on results from elsewhere to aid their survival bid.

Rondon has been identified as a top target for Warnock, who wants to add fire power to his promotion-winning squad this summer.

According to this article, the 28-year-old has a relegation clause set at £16.5m but Cardiff will offer £12.5m for his services.

A number of other Premier League sides are also keen on the Venezuela international, who is a proven physical threat in the top tier.

Rondon has weighed in with seven goals in 35 games this season to add to his tally of 8 in 36 last season.

Cardiff now want Rondon to come in and compete with Kenneth Zohore and Gary Madine for the starting striker spot.

The Verdict

Rondon would be a great signing for Cardiff as he fits their style of play.

The Venezuelan is big, strong and aggressive and he would thrive off the service of Junior Hoilett and the long throws of Sean Morrison and Aron Gunnarsson.

Warnock is not naive and he knows that he needs to add some quality to his squad this summer in order to survive and Rondon would be a good addition to start that.
