Recently relegated Newcastle United have shown interest in Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker about a potential move in the summer, according to an the Sunderland Echo.
As Newcastle United begin to prepare for life in the Championship and attempt to bounce straight back up to the Premier League, Steven Caulker has emerged as a potential target.
The centre-half began his footballing career at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Cardiff City and subsequently Queens Park Rangers.
Since Queens Park Rangers’ relegation, Caulker has spent loan spells at Southampton and for the second half of last season, he was on loan at Liverpool.
With Newcastle United’s defence clearly needing to be strengthened with Championship proven quality, Steven Caulker could be the ideal signing, particularly if Rafa Benitez remains at the club.
If Caulker was to join the side, there could be a very dynamic athletic centre-half partnership of Steven Caulker and Jamal Lascelles who could develop and grow together through a hardened Championship campaign.
Newcastle United, how are you feeling about the news? Would you like to see Steven Caulker at St James Park? Could he be the ideal defensive signing that Newcastle needs? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
