Newcastle United to rival Championship club in race to sign 22-year-old striker

Bristol City and Newcastle United are eyeing a move for OCG Nice’s French striker, Alexandre Mendy, according to French publication L’Equipe via the Bristol Post.

The 22-year-old striker has been drawing attention from both within France with Ligue 1 side EA Guingamp leading the race for Mendy’s signature, but also from England with Championship sides Bristol City and Newcastle United linked with a move for the French striker.

As Mendy is set to become a free agent at the beginning of next month, the young French striker could be an astute low-risk low-cost signing for either Bristol City or Newcastle United.

With both Bristol City and notoriously Newcastle United having comprehensive scouting networks in France, Alexandre Mendy is a young talent that has fallen onto both sides’ radar.

Despite both Bristol City and Newcastle United’s interest in Mendy, it appears that the young French striker may desire to remain in France as Guingamp are the heavy favourite to sign the former OCG Nice striker.

Bristol City and Newcastle United fans, how do you feel about the news? Would you like to see Mendy join your respective side? Is he a talent you’d want at your club? Which side do you think would provide a better opportunity to enhance Mendy’s development? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
