Sky Bet Championship side Newcastle United are eyeing up a move for Partizan Belgrade’s teenage defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to ClubCall.
Ahead of the winter transfer window, Magpies manager Rafa Benitez has begun preparations and drawn up a shortlist of potential transfer targets for the promotion candidates to look to sign when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.
Newcastle’s scouting network has watched the Serbian defender on a number of occasions since the start of the season as they contemplate making a move for the highly-rated teenage defender.
As well as Newcastle United, a wide range of continental European clubs including Ajax and Anderlecht have also shown an interest in the Partizan Belgrade defender.
If Newcastle United are to sign the defender, they will have to pay a relatively low transfer fee, perhaps between two or three million, which could prove to be an astute investment to make.
The Magpies are looking for an immediate return to the top-flight after last season’s abysmal Premier League campaign, and hosted Brentford today in a bid to go top of the division.
