According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has insisted that a break in the sun has done him and some of his team mates plenty of good ahead of the run-in.

For those who weren't on international duty, the break allowed some players to take a mini break and Perez believes that this has positively helped him and his team.

Newcastle United are now returning from the international break to take on Wigan Athletic and three points would go a long way in helping to secure promotion.

With eight games left to play, Newcastle sit top of the Championship table and are well positioned to clinch promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

The Magpies have a seven point gap over Huddersfield in third, although the Terriers do have a game in hand to close that gap to four points.

Perez insisted the break was good to rest up and he said:

“It has been a good break for us to get some rest – I went back home to get some sun.

“It has been really good for me.

"I think the team needed it.

“It had been a long time since the last one.

"Sometimes you need a little time to rest."
