Italian side Fiorentina are keen on signing Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba in the summer, according to reports in Italy via the Chronicle.
Despite Newcastle United’s disappointing campaign which culminated in relegation to the Championship, Fiorentina was still impressed by Mbemba’s performances as the 21-year-old made 33 appearances in his first season in England after making the move from Anderlecht.
Fiorentina’s manager, Paulo Sousa is reportedly a keen admirer of the Democratic Republic of Congo defender and is reportedly interested in signing the defender this summer.
The Italian side will be hoping the promise of European football will be enough to entice Mbemba to leave Newcastle this summer and make the move to Italy.
With both Steven Taylor’s departure and the uncertainty surrounding Fabricio Coloccini’s future at the club, it is unlikely that Rafa Benitez will allow Mbemba to leave.
It is more likely that Rafa Benitez will be looking to forge a partnership between Lascelles and Mbemba over the course of the Championship season.
