Newcastle United star Matt Ritchie is looking forward to a "successful era" at the club under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, according to The Chronicle.

Ritchie joined in the summer from Premier League Bournemouth and has proved to be a key signing for Newcastle, as his performances out wide have helped the Magpies to sit top of the Championship table with ten games to go.

Reflecting on the season, Ritchie said:

“It’s been fantastic.

"We have been top of the league for most of it.

“We’ve had good times and hopefully we’ll continue to have successful times with the manager."

Ritchie also praised Benitez:

“The lads enjoy playing for him and there’s a great belief and desire to achieve success at the football club at the minute.

"I am delighted to be involved in it.”

“He’s got a wealth of experience.

“He tries to put all the information that he has gathered over years across to the players and the people at the club."

And when talking about the future with Newcastle, Ritchie was very optimistic.

The 27-year-old said:

“It’s a big club and when all the people - and the fans - are pulling in the same direction we can be very powerful.

“Everybody has to stick together in the last part of the season and hopefully it can be a successful era for everybody at the club.”
