Newcastle had a hectic summer under manager Rafa Benitez as the club prepared to attempt an instant return to the Premier League.

The big name flops of last season like Moussa Sissoko and Remy Cabella were sold for big money whilst they received big fees for Andros Townsend, and Georginio Wijnaldum as well.

They spent a hefty amount on new players in the summer,  possessing financial firepower their promotion rivals can only dream of, bringing in Premier League players like Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

The defence was bolstered by the arrival of Ciaran Clark and Grant Hanley and the holding midfield strengthened by Isaac Hayden.

So far Newcastle are flying and look set for an instant return to the Premier League sitting top with nine wins in a row.

Dwight Gayle is on fire with 11 goals already with Lascelles impressing at the back, and Shelvey looking a class above in midfield.

Mitrovic has also got going up front and Newcastle look unstoppable.

If Benitez dips into the transfer market again in January, he should look at Premier League giants Arsenal, who possess a squad full to the brim with talent.

Here are TWO Arsenal players Newcastle could sign in January to bolster their squad further....

Carl Jenkinson

It's been tough for Jenkinson at Arsenal ever since he was tipped for stardom when he joined from Charlton.

He has made over 50 appearances for Arsenal at the age of 24, but the right back has found his chances limited due to the emergence of Hector Bellerin at Arsenal, who has become one of the best full-backs in the world.

Jenkinson would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle United in January, as he's an excellent defender as its stands, yet has plenty more room for improvement and development.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Newcastle look excellent in midfield especially with Jonjo Shelvey, who is probably the best central midfielder in the Championship by a distance.

Isaac Hayden is coming along nicely as well but Newcastle could still do with further cover here and signing England youngster Maitland-Niles would solve their problem at right back as well.

He is versatile, quick and a tough tackler whilst also having a keen eye for goal.
